Locking Glove box questions
#2
I think the glove box lock option is common, I see them in my JY all the time. It is the round key, not the square ignition key, so I believe it is a issued key specific deal?
I have heard some where that if you have a square end for the ignition and then a round end for the doors, you can get the round pattern put on one side of the square and have one key for the truck??
Best to start with a square end blank and have a lock smith do it??

My truck doesn't have a round key, same key for doors, hood lock, and ignition. The round head key is an opposite pattern of the square head key. Your saying that some dent sides had 2 keys ? None of the trucks I've owned (10+) had 2 keys. How can cutting the pattern on half work then ? The glove box lock on my buddies truck uses the square key....

Pretty sure I have had trucks with the square for the ing and the round works the doors, at least I remember it being that way...that is not a 100%. And then I trucks have had trucks where one key works all.
Notice where I said "I have heard" about the cutting of the key, to get one key to do the ing and doors. I read about it on here some time ago. Maybe it is for newer style Bronco's?

Not trying to hijack here but, on my 76' F250 I have the double sided square key for doors and ignition. I noticed though that on the doors the key ONLY works positioned one way?
Another words, if I put it in one way it won't unlock, turn the key 180 degrees and it unlocks fine. It's that way on both doors to....?
Anyone else seen this?

BigBore - most likely your key has a bad spot on one side. I believe your key should be symmetrical - you may find that on one side you have an excessively worn spot. A locksmith should b able to cut a key using the good side of your original on both sides of the new key which should work on either side.

1973/78 F100/750's used the square head key for doors and ignition. Round head keys were used for the optional glove box and locking hood latch.
Beginning in 1989, square key used for ignition, round keys for door, glove box lock.
Cutting these 10 cut keys with a hand held key cutter could be a real b!tch, because if the hand held cutter slipped, one side of the key would be cut incorrectly, so only one side would work.
