All 1968/82 460's came with C6's. 1983 was the first year the 460 was available with a M/T & 4WD, F250/350 only.

Hydraulic clutch introduced in 1983 F250/350 460 & 6.9L Diesel, introduced in everything else in 1984.

No 460 came with a Warner T-18.

1983 only: E3TZ-7505-B .. 460/T-19 Bell Housing / Marked: E3TA-7500-BD / Obsolete

1984/87 only: E4TZ-7505-B .. 460/T-19 Bell Housing / Marked: E4TA-7500-DA or E7TA-BA / Obsolete

You need to get a clutch *kit* and flywheel for a '83-'86 460 truck.
The kit should include a pilot bearing for the end of the crankshaft and a release bearing to fit in the fork of the throwout arm, a pressure plate and a friction disc that fits the input shaft of the gearbox.

I'm pretty sure my old T-19 was 1" x 10 spline... (correction, 1&1/16" x 10)

As far as needing a new clutch and pressure plate, you don't have either with your automatic trans. So you definitely need to get a pressure plate (that works with your new flywheel) and a clutch (that works with your trans input shaft and your new pressure plate). I'm thinking that a clutch and pressure plate for the same truck you got your donor bellhousing from is likely to work, but that's just my guess.
Got it, I am just buying the bell housing so I will have to buy clutch and pressure plate separately from a store.

T-18's have a single PTO window on the passenger side and no synchro for first gear.
Where the T-19 found behind 460's have PTO on both sides and is fully synchronized.

Lots of people make a point of the granny low in the T-18, but the C suffix T-19 found in 460 4x4 versions is 6.32:1.

Oh great, these are some specifics. I can safely conclude that the bell housing from T-19 will bolt right into my T-18 for the 460.

Wonderful, you are very knowledgable. Any suggestions on the brand I should purchase. I usually buy my parts from Rockauto. Since my truck didnt come with a 460, any suggestions on that?

The guy I am buying a bell housing from has the complete T19 kit with transfer case and drive shafts. He is selling the bell housing for $210 and wants to sell the whole T19 trans for $550. Will it be easy just to get the whole T19 transmission and put it with 460? I am thinking if it will be less work and headache.

No more or less headache.
If you are happy with the T-18 you have why spend the $$$ on somebody else's used parts?

Your link doesn't work for me.
I've had good luck with Luk and Sachs clutches in the past.

You are absolutely right, I am just nervous (only because mechanic is telling me that FORD is really difficult to work on) about this whole thing and do not want my truck to be stranded for long. I also found this bell housing from another person and giving the housing and plate for $100. I think this is the same as posted above except the top hole on the back of the housing. Will that matter? Also can I use the ears from my current bell housing since this housing below doesn't have it?

The part number that numberdummy has posted above seems to be on this housing.

I just read it on my computer and it is D9. From reading another post from Numbersdummy, this housing is for 351 so looks like this will not fit the 460 and T18, correct?

D9 by itself only means 1979, and if ND referenced a 351 for that bell, it was probably the 351M, which was wheezing about in '79.

Look at the middle illustration here:

Forum Faqs

Note the shape and measurement between the top bolt holes. Note it also looks just like the bells you have linked photos of.

If it's from a 351M, that would make sense as they used the same bellhousing pattern as the 460.

So the bells you picture will bolt to a 460. They both have the Ford "butterfly" trans pattern, so they T18 will bolt to them. The question now would be starter placement and ring gear engagement.....

And mounting the slave cylinder (to a mechanical linkage bellhousing)

You are reading the engineering number, not the part number.
if it came from a 460 truck you have the right part.

This is a 351M/400 bell housing and you will have a problem with pressure plate clearance.
Older bell housings are shallower, but have the the correct bolt pattern.

What in the world?
WRONG bell housing! This is for a 1979/82 F100/350 351M/400! No 351M/400 has a hydraulic clutch.

Since the 460 was not available with a M/T or 4WD until 1983, you CANNOT have a bell housing with a 1979 ID number prefix of D9TA

ALL 1983/97 460's have a hydraulic clutch.

Open your peepers and see post #16 where I listed the CORRECT 460 bell housing part and ID numbers.
