Need Help on my 97 Expy

Ever so often when I'm rolling down the road I feel a drivetrain bind followed by a metal on metal popping sound. The front suspension was in bad shape so I replaced the lower ball joints, tie rod ends, and the upper control arms. All new Moog parts. I also replace the front brakes rotors, calpiers, and pads. A month later the binding comes back. I replaced the u joints on the drive shaft, a month later the binding and popping comes back. I'll take it down a dirt road and engage it through AWD, 4hi, and then 4 low. I will be good for a week and the problem popps back up. Aside lighting a roadside flare and shoving it down the gas filler tube, whats the next thing I should check out? Its a 97 with a 5.4L

How are the tires? Do you have new ones on one axle and worn ones on the other? Are they all properly inflated? All wheel drive vehicles needs the same size tire at all 4 corners. A difference of 1/4" in circumference can cause issues.

Could just be a faulty front or rear speed sensor on the transfer case. Being a 97 it could be time to just replace both of them and be done with it.

The tires are good, it happens in 2wd. What do the speed sensors do? Do they come into play while in 2wd ?

Case closed! Sorry I havent been on much this year I work 7 days a week. Anyway it turned out to be the pneumatic solenoid right on the firewall. Diagnosing this issue helped me find a bunch of other thing wrong with my expy. Sinse then I rebuilt the front suspension and replaced everything brake related. The ol'girl needed much love.
