F250 should be an E4OD.

What is your end goal?

If your sure that your truck has the AOD and not the E4OD, then you could upgrade to either the E4OD (auto) or the ZF5 (manual). Both are of relatively equal strength. The ZF5 would be easier since both it and the AOD do not require computer additions or modifications.

You've got the best auto trans that came in these trucks Imo. C6 internals with OD/electronic lockout, if your looking for an extra gear, anything is poss with enough time and cash, but I would look for a newer super duty if you want a 5 or 6 spd bad enough

X2...you have the best transmission available at the time. Later versions will not fit your engine unless you go to extremes and make an adapter then figure out how the computer can control it.

Better in what way?
What engine does your truck have?
How big/heavy is the trailer?

A transmission is not going to help you in either situation.

For more torque you want lower gears

But for lower rims at highway speed you want higher gears

If you want a lower overdrive ratio you'll need to design and build custom gears. You could buy a whole fleet of brand new trucks for much less than that would cost.

More torque at low speed and lower engine revs at high speeds is contradictory in terms of gear changes

Lots of ways to get that and it gets discussed all over this site on a nearly daily basis so start reading.

OK here's the dirt. Forget about achieving 80mph at 1500rpm that is just not gonna happen, even when built up this motor should be turning about 2500rpm at that speed otherwise it will be totally under geared for towing. So no you can't have your cake and eat it too, you could get those results with a new diesel truck but those don't deliver super high fuel milage while towing either, so I don't know if it would be worth the cost for you.

Couldn't a higher stall speed torque converter be a non-engine way to get more torque / power? Any time the torque converter clutch isn't locked up you'd have higher engine speed, which would likely move you up the torque and power curves. But when the TCC locked up you'd be back where you started, so at least it wouldn't make the engine run faster at higher speeds.

Of course you never get something for nothing. I'd expect more heat meaning more fuel during acceleration. And it'd make a good cooler all the more important.

Question please, can't say I've ever heard it addressed...

Is it possible to put a gear-vendors on an E4OD?
