What is the inverted screw trick? Please explain.

In the pic of the blue M-H truck that I looked at, the parts right above the door connecting to the horizontal roof piece looked taller and more vertical, could just be an illusion. See also how that part on the M-H wraps around to the window, while yours (saddle colored one?) has a separate piece?
They both have a separate piece, mine came with both the long (51-52) and the short (48-50) piece. I put the bottom piece over the sides, his has them under.

Late getting back to the thread, but yes the pieces on Jim Welch's blue truck are the type I'm looking for, except the material is different than mine. The roof piece on mine has perforations in it - the holes are about 1/2" apart, I think. My side pieces come clear down to the bottom of the rear window, and there are no separate pieces as shown on the truck with the brown headliner. My truck had a hole for a roof mounted spotlight when I got it, and the original headliner was wet and sagged down about 6 inches. I found another headliner from an F-8 in a local wrecking yard and installed it. It was gray like my old one, and also had the interior light with the switch that mine never had originally. I think the original one also had the holes, but not certain after all these years. I only have the two pieces - roof with attached sides, and the piece (what's left of it) that goes below the back glass. Yes Ross, the thread I mentioned before was the one where the guy made the template from original pieces. I downloaded that file and the template is just like the pieces on mine. Although it looks nice, the one in the blue truck still doesn't look like exactly right to me. When I learn how to post pictures here, I'll try to show what mine looks like. Thanks! - Bob

You screw in from the top of the center mount so the pointy end is facing downward and push the headliner up into it, leaving a depression where the hole should be.

I think it may be an optical illusion, I blew that picture up, it gets really blurry but it looks like there is a seam there. I don't know if they cut off the border, but it looks like two pieces.

The original is all one piece. I agree that the side piece looks taller and more vertical than it should. - Bob

Here's a picture of my original '52 headliner (but not original to my truck) along with an enlarged one of the "blue truck." I can see the differences in the side pieces. The side pieces are sewn (hinged) to the perforated roof piece and extend down to the rear window. Ross, I checked that template PDF and you can see the shape of the rear window at the lower end of the side pieces. Notice that the plastic piping along the "hinge" (where the side pieces attach to the roof) is slightly different in color. I don't have the Body Parts catalog. I wonder if it shows the p/n's for the headliners? - Bob

So-
I might just have some time Sunday and Monday on this long Holiday weekend.
I'm thinking I might try to get the bed wood replaced.
Wish me luck.

I currently have 3 V4 Saabs- Just sold my '69 Sonett V4, Had a couple of Sonett III's...I have at least 9 Saabs right now...
Note the signs in the shop, shop color scheme is Swedish flag blue and yellow- and a Saab in just about every picture of my 52...
The green '73 in the background has a 120 ! HP built V4 as does my '68 95.
Saab guy from way back.
Had a '55 Ford F100 before any of the Saabs though...

Nice job on the new bed wood! I've had my new wood for 12 years and still haven't got "a round tuit." You probably know exactly how many nuts there were to tighten from underneath. Mine looks about like what's in your scrap pile. - Bob

I think it's probably dried by now.

Thanks Bob! I can't live with half finished projects!
I had a free day and just decided to get it done!
I love the look of it - but more than that - now my beds firmly attached to my frame- so no more banging over bumps!
Plus - I can use it now without fear of falling through or having the ugly plywood on the top.
12 years isn't that long, as long as you still know where all the replacement parts are - it's all good.
