Transmission Issue

I have a 2015 F150 XLT 5.0. I have about 2500 miles on this truck. Every now and then at low RPMs like when your coasting down a city street or parking lot with little or no throttle it feels like it just Slams into another gear. Its so hard that it startles you because your not expecting it. Its probable happened about 5 times. It seems to run and shift fine other than this. Anyone else had this happen?

No "slamming" like that. However, we have a long driveway that is fairly steep in a couple places. When I crest the top of the hill, I generally shift into first gear. What I've noticed is that the tranny won't actually shift right away. It "waits" several seconds (4 or 5), before it suddenly drops into first. When this happens, I'm generally in 2nd gear, and moving about 5 MPH. The shifting is kind of sudden, but it doesn't feel like a "slam". I'm more concerned about the long delay before it actually shifts.

The six speed has proven to be a very reliable yet quirky transmission. I'd take it in and see if a code has been stored though unlikely. Perhaps a simple reflash is all she needs.

I'm not having a "slam", but as I leave my neighborhood on a cold start either the engine is bucking or the tranny shifting oddly. Doesn't do it every time, but has a couple or three times. It's at probably 10-15 MPH and as I'm slowing down. Haven't figured out if it is the engine or tranny - yet.

You know, maybe that's what I'm seeing too. I seem to only notice it when I'm heading out after a cold start. I don't know that I've seen it when coming home & everything is all warmed up. Will have to pay attention to that variable. Maybe it's only a downshift issue when the tranny is cold?

My 2011 would occasionally do this when accelerating before everything got warmed up. I thought I saw somewhere or was told the computer 'learns' driving habits and tries to optimize shifting and a flash would cure it until it re-learned. Could have completely dreamed it though. Asked my service department about a flash, and when they told me the price, decided I could live with the hard shift every so often.

Mine too

I was having the same issue. I have only 2300 miles. Cruising thru town at 20 25 mph and it shifts from 5 to 4 hard. Hard enough you feel it in your feet. Dealer took it for a day ran all they could and couldn't find anything. It does it every few weeks at random I have tried to make it repeat but no success. dealer says no codes etc.

A lot of people including myself have the hard "clunk" shift from 5th to 4th every now and then.

It feels horrible! Hopefully it won't cause any problems down the road.

My '15 has less than 2k miles and has also done 5 or 6 times. Happens when down shifting from 5th to 4th. I would expect a TSB will be coming soon.

Why are you thinking a TSB is coming? Owners are being told its normal as they all do it. And some BS about the transmission is just protecting it's self.

I think the TSB will be for reprogramming the transmission module after thousands of us go to the dealer with the same problem.

3400 on my F150 5.0. Mine slams/clunks between 3rd and 4rth. Same situation...low speed like going thru a neighborhood then it just shifts up to 4rth ...SLAM. It's only between those to gears though. I will let me dealership know and see what they say...
