Another rear main seal thread

I tried searching and can't seem to find what I'm looking for....I have a 1987 f250, 4x4, 7.5L. Everybody wants to say that the seal can be replaced by removing the oil pan and leaving the engine/trans in. I'm taking the trans out to replace the flywheel and thought I'd replace the rear main if needed while everything is torn apart. Do I still need to remove the oil pan if the entire transmission is removed? I haven't found a specific picture for my setup, but most other rear main seals I've seen are directly behind the flywheel and are not blocked by the oil pan. Just trying to figure this out before I get too far along.....

I believe the 460s of that vintage still used a 2-piece rear main seal, which means you have to remove the oil pan. Later versions had a 1-piece seal that came out the back without removing the pan.
