Build update and question......

Well, after a lot of cutting, welding, grinding and more of the same I have front floors, front/rear cab corners, rocker panels and doors lined up. Feeling good about progress and now moving on to refitting the front end to check for fit.

One thing I do need to do know is move on some of the original build parts I won't need so here is the question. The PO had the front bench seat fully re-trimmed and is in excellent order so I will be looking to sell it on Craigslist along with a very good gas tank and a few other parts. What would you think the seat is worth?

Cheers John

An upholstered seat can be worth up to $600 or so, but that's assuming the buyer wants the seat upholstered exactly like that. Otherwise the buyer would have to reupholster it, so they're buying basically just the frame. I'd say a reasonable price for the one you have there would be $250-300, unless you find that perfect buyer.

Yea, you'll never recoup the investment in a custom covered seat. The 51 I'm building, the PO spent about $1,000.00 to have the seat completely rebuilt, powder coated and covered in the exact original 5 Star deluxe material from LeBaron Bonney. If I could get that for the seat I'd sell and put different seats in, but there's no much chance of getting that out of it.

If you intend to replace this seat with another bench seat then you would probably be ahead of the game by having this one reupholstered. Another option is to have the naugahyde dyed to the color you need. I have used products from Leatherique with great success, I have even sent them paint samples which they have matched for my interior applications.

My thoughts exactly. Plus unless you want to try shipping it (real ugly and $$$) you're looking at a pool of owners within a 2 - 3 hour drive from you at most. That's a pretty limited audience.

I tend to agree with Charlie that recovering to your desires (maybe further down the road) might be the best option. They are comfortable seats, surprisingly.

Here is an example of what a talented upholstery guy can do with a stock F100 (in this case a 1955) bench seat...

Really nice work on your cab, looks like you brought it back from the dead!
I like the idea of dying the naugahyde to another color. Looks like a decent bench seat.

If you were a little closer, I would be all over that seat. That is pretty close to what I want to do to my seat.
