Misfire on cyl 4 04 Explorer
I'm officially at my wits end.
2004 Explorer
Sequence of events.
1. ran hot
2. realized radiator was cracked, replaced
*no water mixed with oil, no coolant leaked in engine, so no blown gaskets*
3.the second it was cranked back up engine light came on
4. cylinder 4 misfire code
5. changed plugs
6. changed wires
7. changed crank shaft position sensor
8. vehicle runs worse now than before with the added bonus of the smell of gas in the body and through the exhaust
I'm at a loss. I'm out of ideas as to whats causing the misfire and the horrendous smell.
Any ideas???

Could still be a Blown head gasket. Mine did this after the previous owner ran it hot. It wasn't mixing any fluids and drove ok. Monitor your coolant tank for signs of burping over while driving and having a lot of pressure in it. When you shut down some of the coolant goes into the cylinder, just enough to cause a misfire.I just replaced my engine as it has to come out to do the heads properly anyway. Hope that's not your issue.

Do you have an in-series spark tester that you could use to confirm you're getting spark to cylinder 4? Since you smell fuel in the exhaust I wouldn't focus yet on confirming you have injector pulse.
Does the spark plug coming out of cylinder 4 look wet with anything other than fuel if you pull it? If you leave the plug out for half an hour does the wetness evaporate away or remain?
Do you have access to a cylinder leakage tester?
