2004 excursion thoughts
I'm looking at a 2004 Excursion XLT with 190,000 miles on it.The price is 6990.00 without a warranty at all. It's a pretty truck but I'm worried about the miles, trans, and transfer case. Also its a 410 rear which I usually like the 3:73 limited slip. Its a 5.4 V8 triton.I'm usually a diesel man.How is the 5.4.Do you think its a tired motor with all that mileage?I tried to get a 30 warranty out of them to have it completely checked out. They won't budge.Any thoughts.

Drive it! Then drive it again! See if the power is OK for what you're used to and what you're going to do with it. I drove one and thought it was just OK, then drove a 7.3, then a 6.0, then a V10 to compare- and the 5.4 was my least favorite. Then I drove another 6.0, then another 7.3, etc because they each ran differently. We drove a doggy 6.0, a doggy 7.3, and didn't want to make a decision based on one impression.
Remember it's a 7500 lb vehicle being pulled by a little V8, so you can't expect it will live as long, or get as good of mileage as they do in 4000 lb cars.
Good luck!

I think that for a 5.4 XLT (less options) with 190,000 miles without a warranty that it would have to be pretty nice and drive excellently to fetch $7,000. But a lot of that depends on the local market, you don't show your location in the top right of your post ( fill out the location in your User CP profile).

No!
No way should you buy the 5.4. The ex is too heavy for that engine. You will be very disappointed, and its definetly not a 7K vehicle I dont care if it only has 2 mi on it. I have an 04 v10 4x4 with 180 on it and she is a beauty but wouldnt give 7 for it in todays market. For the size that engine is way under powered.

Sorry, it probably is the 4.6 I should refer to. The 5.4 is basically the same motor as the 4.6, so I would think it is fair to say it is a solid motor.

4.6 & 5.4 are awesome motors but the Ex is to big for those motors if you are looking for impressive anything.

Don't ignore the ultra reliable and nearly as awesome as a PSD 6.8 V-10, for much less initial cost. No matter what you plan to use your future EX for the V-10 will not disappoint, unless MPG are your priority but if you were looking at 5.4s then I guess MPGs are not the priority.
