I have a 1956 Ford f100 that I'm restoring an I checked the timing and the spark plug fires just on time. I have it cranking and gas is flowing in to the engine but I can't get it started and black smoke keeps blowing through the carburetor. Whats causing this?

I could be wrong, but my first though is that you it have 180° out of time.
I haven't removed the distributor and yeah I used the timing light my timing was good.
What engine and transmission does the truck have? What is the timing that you got? ( in relation to timing marks) Do you remove the vacuum advance line when checking timing?
Transmission was broke on the truck so my granddad replaced it so I don't know, but it's a 292. I haven't gotten the truck to run but it does crank and barely starts, but while it does that when I don't open the throttle, air and fuel comes off the top where 4 holes are, and when I open the throttle all the way, black smoke comes out the choke.

Oh yeah and whats the vacuum advance?
The vacuum advance is a vacuum line from the carb to the distributor.
I looked in my manual the four holes are called "main well air bleed" and "aspirating air bleed"
Ok, so you have gas and air coming out of the top of the carb? And black smoke coming out of the carb when you open the throttle?
I was hoping one of the Y block guys would pipe in here, but that sure sounds like timing off 180° and it's exhausting through the carb.
Are you sure the wires are on the proper post and plugs?
Do you understand the proper firing order?
When using a timing light are you sure it is attached to the #1 plug? ( front plug, passenger side)
Dang really? My luck, how'd that happen? I know the firing order and I'm really sure I have it plugged in the right order, I'll check in the morning. And yeah I properly did the time light.
