Do you think it's time for a fuel filter change? Low mileage truck.

Do you think it's time for a fuel filter change? Low mileage truck.

Have 2012 6.7 and just rolled over 10000 miles. Always get my oil change once a year in November regardless of miles since i worked out free oil changes with my dealer when I bought the truck. Anyways, fuel filters have never been changed and I have never seen water in the fuel but i figured since it's about 3 years old maybe I should change it. I have read some people change theirs at 10k and others wait until the computer tells you to. Manual says change every 22500 but doesn't mention anything about time. So what you think? Thanks.

IMO you many want to change just to see how clean the diesel fuel you're buying. These filter's don't have a time limit on them, but after 3 years on a fuel filter I think I would change it.

I'd change them.

If for no other reason then to remove the gunk that may have built up from sitting for long periods.

concur. I change mine every year despite the mileage. Easy to do and worth the peace of mind.

Me too, I change the fuel filter on my tractor annually, regardless of hours or conditions.

Technically you're probably fine, but I think 3 years is plenty long. If for no other reason than to keep the canister from seizing.

My '13 has a tad over 10k miles also and I changed mine a few months ago. Easier to do than the previous 6.4. Some good vids on U-tube to guide you through it.

Not sure what info screen you have on your XLT but if it's the basic info screen, it won't notify for fuel filters (or coolant).

I typically change at 15,000 which I think is the severe duty schedule but I call that the real world schedule. I think I'm close to 17,000 right now so I need to stop forgetting.

Well, not that soon....LOL. I don't put that many miles on my truck so when the 17's come out I won't have another 15k by then. But yes, in the somewhat near future, a 450 will grace my avitar...
