What oil do you use?

Dixie, I use Super tech as well. Manufactured by Warren Petroleum, or was last time I looked.
It is also what I use for transmission fluid changes. I usually do 3 months because of the consistent short trips I make and idling for extended time. Everything gets a Motorcraft filters. I have actually just tried Pennzoil platinum in the 2000 5.4 Expedition. Will keep an eye on the mileage as it is considered the best as available Synthetic, with the highest detergent and anti-wear package.

A little more mileage would be nice but then I think of some of the things I do like off-roading and towing and quickly realize that any gains I might see on the highway or around town would go down the drain anyway.

When I worked in a dealership, we had Mobil 1 on tap. So that's what I started with. Then I changed the oil in the car of the guy that owned the oil company that delivered the oil to the shop, and he would not let us use the bulk oil. Said the requirements on purity on bulk oil was lower than on bottled oil. So he always brought Mobil 1 bottled oil with him.
After thinking about how long the bulk oil tank sat out behind our shop, I started wondering how many contaminants were sinking to the bottom, and when it was getting filled or emptied. That made me switch to always making sure I use bottled oil. I still run Mobil 1 or Rotella on older engines, as that is what we ran in our diesels, and I got the chance to look at the inside of a few engines that were on conventional and synthetic.
The worst engine to look at was the one that didn't ever get it's oil changed. when the drain came out, but the oil was sludge. The write up was 'engine is noisy'. Ended up not being a warranty fix, that made the owner livid!

I use Rotella 15-40 in my 94 460 truck, and change it often. It has a lot of detergents in it, being a diesel oil. Helps keep things clean, especially when coupled with a good oil filter. I normally buy a Mobil-1 oil filter, K&N oil filter, or a Napa Gold series filter.
Fram filters are garbage. Very cheap internal components, and very little filter material.
Here's a link to a really good oil filter thread if anyone cares to read up.

Anything that doesn't meet current API specs, like non-detergent oil still sold at auto parts stores, and garbage, no-name-brand oils that are typically sold at convenience stores such as this: Petroleum Quality Institute of America - Data Template
Why? Because they're terrible oils that do not perform as well as an oil that does meet current specs, and they will turn to sludge over the course of a normal oil change interval and WILL cause increased wear and could possibly ruin your engine. Also, these companies are run by scumbags, because they know their products are inferior and will damage people's engines, they know that most consumers don't know what API specs are and that the consumers will think this garbage is perfectly fine to use in their cars when they are unknowingly ruining their engines.
Like I said before, I'm not brand loyal and will use just about any oil, but you couldn't pay me to use garbage like this in my vehicles. As long as it meets current API specs, it's a "good" oil, and I'll use it.
