302 engine

Will any 302 engine line up with a manual trans for a 79 f150 ranger. 2wd? I'm sure there is a link but I'm not finding an exact answer I'm looking for

Not enough info. Later blocks will not have the boss on the drivers side that the "Z" bar connects to. Other than that any 302 should work.

I am going to assume the trans for the '79 is for a 302? I must be, or for a 300, the 351M/400/460 trans will not work.

If the 3 speed was from an inline 6 or 302 equipped truck (small block bolt pattern) then yes, it will physically bolt up. As was said before, there is the issue with z-bar, but there is a company that sells a bracket that bolts to the back is the bellhouse. It's a simple bracket to make if you have a welder. If you use a late model 302, you have to use the proper balancer (50 ounce imbalance) and flywheel since the early engines used a 28 ounce imbalance.
What is in the truck now?
