Radiator Core Support - Tap Threads for Airbag Sensor

I am re-mounting things back to my radiator core support (96 F150 4.9L)

The air bag sensors are giving me grief. The two sensors mount directly to the top and front of the core support.

The holes on the old core were threaded. The new core is not threaded.

You can't get behind them with a nut, so I have two choices:
1) Tap threads into the holes (3 per sensor)
2) Use self tapping metal screws

It's funny how little things like this can slow you down

Thoughts? Ideas?
