parking brake cables

My buddy bought his son a 1969 F100 long bed truck. The parking brake doesn't work, the adjuster is at the end of the threads and there is still slack. We're not sure the cables are routed correctly. Can someone post a diagram or pictures of the correct cable routing? I'm not sure the cable routing on my crew cab will be the same as the frames are slightly different. Is it common for these cables to stretch and need replacing? Stretching cables, is that possible?

Yes they will stretch some and are adjustable to take up the slack. The trick usually is to keep them lubed so they will fully release and not drag.

Thanks. They've adjusted all the can and there is still slack. Looks like it's time to order new cables.

Yes, get them while you can, if you can.
I have a '67 that snapped a cable twenty years ago. I looked for six months to get a replacement because '67 is a one-off oddball. That was before I knew who ND was. He might have put me onto one by return post.

You're welcome Anthony. But as I stated, check inside the drums 1st. I have a sneaky suspicion there's some gremlins in there. Something out of whack. Something put together wrong. Etc.

I'll remind them to pull the drums and have a look.
