i had a beautiful 74 rancheroo... love that lllooonnnggg hood.

i wrecked it on thew way to work one morning. the first car I hit was a chevette... amazing how many times it flipped end over end after it hit my front fender. (amazingly the guy walked out of it unharmed..) a half a second later i cut a monte carlo in half. yes.. in half. took the front clip and the engine clean off the frame... the poor lady was also not harmed to badly. my poor rancheroo got its engine shoved bach a few feet but not enough to break the windshield, my face did that.

rancheroo crash tested... scored a 10.
chevette flight test; 6.5
monte carlo stick together-ness score -2.

my doors still closed perfectly...

i really loved that truckcar thing... it was a siezure om my part, lost my driving privlages for 4 years till i was stable.

I always bow to any rancheroo i see... even if the steering wheel took my teeth, that all it cost me.

they shoulda called them "ranch-rhinos"

I've got a 72 GT 400 which took me 6 years to find. I love the front ends and the hoodscoops on these. I like the 59s only because that's the year I was born. Otherwise they're butt-ugly.

Easy big fella,

The 59 Fords were considered a major break through for styling. In fact 59 was one of the few years in the 50s that Ford outsold Chevy and it was attributed mainly to the new look classic styling.

You want butt ugly, pick on the Maverick or, say, Mustang II.

Cheers! Skip

A friend offerred to sell me his running 77 GT for $250.
Of course I jumped at it.
The AC seized up on my first freeway ride, but there just happened to be a new belt sitting in the engine compartment that just happened to fit around the other pullys without the AC.
His uncle bought it new in 1977. Comes with all the hardbound shop manuals.
Runs good, burns rubber from a dead stop, after driving my Aerostar I had to develop a gas pedal foot that wouldn't squeal the tires.
It has some front damage, around the headlights. I'd like to get that front area replaced sometime.

I like the 1959 & 1972 but since I own a 1978, I guess that must be my favorite, but what a BOAT ! It feels 50 feet long (and that is just the hood) even without the 5th wheel!

Unhappy my 64

my boyfreind and i pick up a 64 from a guy who owns a midget race car shop in diamond springs california. said he had some irs problems needed to sell some extra stuff.now i'm wondering why we bought it. the guy rebuilt the trans and rebuilt motor with a pain in the you know what combination of 351w heads,289 block, edelbrock performer intake,600 edelbrock carb, flat top pistons, and a small cam for that off the line jump.well now that we have it at home in the garage and tuned to the right marks it gets super erratic as soon as you rev engine. almost as if it could be improper timing. but thats not the caes and eveything under the hood is brand new all the way down to wiring. love the ranchero, but frustrated with motor.

sorry for rambling ... 64 ranchero is my favorite and i had to search for it.

I have a couple of thoughts on the best lookin year. First the 71 does have the best lookin front end style and I think the best in the Torino series but the rear light style does not match the sharp look of the front. The 71 Torino rear end does. The 72 fish is the best in style, hot, shapely, and classy. The 78 and 79 also has great style and the ride is very smooth.

I would have to choose the 1972 for best all around style/

I have owned:
1971 Torino 351c 4bbl 4 spd Hurst
1972 Ranchero GT 351c 2bbl.
1978 Ranchero Squire 302c 2bbl.
1978 Ranchero GT 429 2bbl.
1972 Ranchero 351c 2 bbl.

And loved every one of them. I envy all of you who have a Ranchero in your family.

My preferences are The 59 , 70-71 and the one year for the 72's
I would love to get those to do. I goofed about 2 years ago when someone had a 70 with good paintjob, but poor body work, He wanted 1500.00 for it and I should of went for it. The lack of funds did not help at the time. I'm going to be keeping my eyes open around here them and maybe bring a few home. The new wife may not like it, but she's glad I'm not in the bars or doing ther things. I'm around home, which suits me fine.
