What tune are you running when you tow?

And those are some no joke mountains out that way. I remember going up to Glacier national park coming up from Yellowstone 6 years ago and I thought I was driving up a wall. Nothing the pimples I am used to back east.

Running PHP 80hp tow tune, been thinking about Gearhead tunes, but had trouble getting Wildman tunes that would run in my truck, so I am not sure I want to go through the back and forth tring to get the tunes right.......

I should clarify. It wasn't that loud outside. My boys actually loved me to punch it when going under a bridge because it sounded so good. Inside the cab while driving down the freeway was a different story. It was the drone that made me crazy. This is what I bought.
FTE Resonator / Muffler 5" x 30" Aluminized - Resonators / Mufflers

It made a WORLD of difference.

EGT's. I put the exhaust on right after I bought it so I dont really know what they were before. I just pulled a 26' trailer to Bryce Canyon. It weighed 7k dry and there are some MONSTER mountains on the way. I ran most of the way in the medium tow setting and hit 1300* once or twice. Just for a second though. On the big hills I ran the heavy tow setting and didnt have any issues.

IIRC that tune is for pretty light towing... like 7000 lbs or so... how heavy is your trailer? Do you have a milder tune?

As Dan V said, you may want to try Gearhead tunes. Their tunes have solved many EGT, ICP, noise, smoke and shift problems for lots of people I know on the first attempt.

I had a 5" on my 7.3 and I didn't find that it droned excessively......then again it would be hard to tell with the 7.3 pounding away right in front of me.

I didn't choose the 5" myself, but the previous owner installed a very nice quality stainless Magnaflow. If I had to choose myself, I wouldn't avoid the 5", I don't think there is any real gain from the 5 over the 4 and some may argue the other way.

Personal preference and sound.

Not sure if your going 5" from turbo back or not, but I've heard the 5" downpipe is a pain in the a$$ to fish between the firewall. My Magnaflow kit has a 3.5" DP with 4" all the way out. They claim the smaller DP spools the turbo quicker without loosing too much flow. Just something to consider...

I have a 4" turbo back right now, so would keep the 4" down pipe and go 5" from there.....
