Unhappy Best way to repair rotted out stake pockets?

most of the Stake pockets in my '50 F2 are rotted out on the bottom (and some on the sides)

what would be the best way to patch these or would I be better off cutting them off and replacing them

(I'm a novice to body work but I'll try anything before I need to replace them if I can)

I was able to repair mine.

There are replacements available for the 48-50 F1 stakepockets, which have the rounded bottoms. I heard that the F2-3s are taller. You may be able to cut the new ones and use as patch panels.

Mine is an F1, but I imagine the process is similar.

You can cut off the old ones with an air chisel - easiest way. Spot weld new ones back in place - or drill 3/8" holes behind the flanges of the new pockets, clamp the pocket in place and fill in the hole with weld.

Be advised the front pockets also use some rivets holding them to the headwall of the box. When you cut them loose the 3 sides of the box will fall apart.

Mack Products of Moberly, Missouri has the best prices and produce the stake pockets for several outlets including Mac's Antique Auto Parts.

Best way to repair rotted out stake pockets?

Toonman, I'm in the same boat as you are working on my 52' F-3. Two of my stake pockets are completely missing the lower 6 inches, one is beaten beyond recognition, and the other is starting to rust out badly, but is still in a shape I can see what its suppost to look like.

I haven't found any direct replacements yet, but I am thinking my best bet would be to get a replacement/repro stake pocket from a 48-50 F-1 that has the same rounded bottom as the stakes on mine, and use it for a patch panel (as Sasha98 said). From what I understand, it won't be a perfect match because I believe the F-2/3 stakes are wider and taller, but I could modify the f-1 patch to work. Hopefully within the next few months when I have a bit more freetime, I'll break down and order one of the replacement stakes and see if and how well it will work. If I can make it go, I'd order the 3 more, if not I'm only out about $25.

I'm not certain how soon, you'll be getting to work on your truck, but I'll certainly get up a post about my progress as soon as I know.

Jon, that's what I'm thinking of doing to, try one, see how it works out then order more if I need them.....

I haven't found anyone with the Center stake pocket yet, I could probably try fabricating that myself (or more to the point, have my neighbor do it)

I'll keep you informed if I get to mine before you do.......

Best way to repair rotted out stake pockets?

hey toonman, I actually went ahead and ordered one of the stake pockets from Mack's, hopefully should have it shortly so I can report on if it will work or not.

Actually, with my case at least, since all 4 of my pockets need to be replaced, I don't think it will matter how exact the match is, as long as I get all 4 corners matching and at least resembling stock. I might be able to get by, by lengthening the replacements to fit, and calling it good. Anyways, I'll let ya know soon I hope.
