Hey guys,

I bought a 94 ranger last night and the first thing we did before being able to drive it home was break the key off in the ignition. I'm hoping this truck isn't cursed or something.

There is no spare key, what would you do? I know I can buy a new ignition from ford but how do I get a key to unlock the doors?

Can you get a hold of the key with a pair of needle nosed pliers?
Are you locked out of your truck now?

 

The truck is still unlocked but I can't get pliers in there to fish the key out. It only broke off probably 40% of the key so it's pretty deep in the hole lol

 

I would think a locksmith could get the key out, and make you a couple of new ones.


If you want to do it yourself then it's probably going to be thru the steering column.

Not having any luck getting the ignition lock out

 

Probably have to take the steering wheel off and get inside the steering column from that direction, not, do not try to get in from the ignition key direction.

 

You can get a new DUPLICATE key from Ford if your vehicle is about 10 years old or newer. Your '94 won't be eligible. As mentioned, find a competent locksmith.

 

In the bottom photo, is that part of the key showing at the down side of the key slot??? If so, maybe try leveraging it out with a pair of sharp/needle nose tweezers. The sharp end of the tweezer down on the key stub & pivot the top back against the lock cyl to leverage the key stub out to where you can get hold of it with needle nose pliers.
