How to drain water from fuel/water separator in a 7.3 PSD van?
Before I have an alert on my panel and need to really figure out how to do it, I figured I should ask, and learn now. When my "Water in fuel" light turns on, how exactly do I drain it?
A, is it accessible through the hood, and not the doghouse?
B, do I have to put a catch pan under the van when doing this? If so, where under the van?
C, how do I know when all the water is drained out?
D, is there a well-lit video of exactly where it is and what to turn/do?
Thanks!

if you haven't done it yet, change your fuel filter and you will see the whole mechanism. they are really bad for leaking if you have not drained it regularly! a little yellow handle moves a cable which pulls the lever to drain the water separator. the same little cable is supposed to push the lever back but if it hasn't been used regularly it can bind and not close completely.
make sure your engine is cool when you attempt.
sorry can't help with a video, but I have learned to suck out all the dregs in the bottom of the fuel bowl with a suction gun while changing my fuel filter. then I squirt some brake clean down in there and blow the housing out with air. it can be messy, lots of shop rags needed my way. depending on your year van the filter housing will fill up with the key on>electric pump.
had another van leak after draining the customer's water , and we ended up replacing the filter housing when we could not stop it from leaking.
