Any benefit to a sync/navigation update or headaches
I have a 2011 with factory navigation and sync. Never did any updates for two reasons:
-dealer wants to charge for it (ridiculous)
-afraid it might screw up the delicate SYNC which is already known for its various quirks.
Most everything works with the nav and phone and music playing from USB2 cabled to back of the radio most of the time but it "would be nice" to have fresh maps of streets that were changed/built in past 4 years, so questions:
-when you get updates to maps, does it also refresh the sync software or is it 2 separate update procedures?
-has anyone taken the update(s) and did they resolve any problems?
-is paying for this worth it or will it introduce more headaches, regress my cellphone pairings and whatever other annoying problems
-f it aint broke should I fix it?? ;-)

Hi Big-Red-Lariat,
Map updates are completely separate from SYNC. You can purchase your update from our map partner: GPS Navigation System | HERE | Navigation.com
If you decide to update SYNC, you can check our website for updates available: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...p-to-date.html
I hope this helps!

I got the Sync update from my dealer because I was still under certified used vehicle warranty and the Navigation would when following a route would place me .5 miles off my actual route. The update fixed that problem.
I paid $150 for the map update. I don't know where they get their map database but it is already outdated. It fails to show roads that were built years ago.
The missing roads are on Bing, Google, etc. I am disappointed with the update. I will stick with my hand held Delorme PN-60w SE. I can update maps on my Topo 10 package and update the maps on the PN-60. There are other GPS devices you can use.
