Rattle behind instrument area
My 91 f-250 has developed an bad rattle in the dash in front of the driver position. I see no problem with the instruments or lights and the dash itself is original with no cracks.
Is there an easy way to look behind the instruments to find whatever has broken loose and repair or remove it. I am having some problems with brittleness in the truck's plastic components and this dash has never been opened before. I don't want to turn a rattle problem into something worse.
I have a manual but it doesn't seem to apply to the dash arrangement I have. The instrument cluster contains a central speedometer, on the right an oil pressure indicator (no numbers) with a fuel gauge under it and on the left an alternator current indicator (no numbers) with a temperature gauge under it. The rest is idiot lights.
I have found a small plastic air duct connector which had broken off and suspect another bigger one is broken off where I can't retrieve it. I also have two switches that broke off their mounts (fuel tanks and overdrive) which I have repaired makeshift.
Any advice on what to do next will be appreciated. I hate this rattle as it is very loud and ruins my cool when driving on anything but a perfectly smooth road.
