Exclamation HELP - I dropped something in the motor. Am I screwed?

I'm working on finishing things up, after injectors and cups. All along I feared dropping one of the many tiny bolts,etc... in the motor.

It finally happened. I dropped one of the small oil rail plugs (the uvc ones) while trying to put it in. It went in the pushrod hole at the top of the head, on # 5 cyl.
I know. I should have plugged them with paper towels or something. I wasn't thinking.

Can I leave it in there or am I completely screwed now? I really need to get this thing running tonight, or I'm going to be without it for at least another week.

What kind of magnets do you have available to you?

Hopefully it is sitting on the top of the lifter. I assume that the push rod was out? You could try to fish it out with a small magnet. Not sure what the diameter of the push rod hole is, but there are "screw starters" about the size of a pencil that have a magnet on the end. Just a thought.

Exactly, or there are some small diameter rare earth magnets that are insulated except for the recessed tip to keep them from sticking to everything they contact, such as the head...can some one help with the specific name for them?

neodymium magnet

They have flexible 24" neodymium pickup tools in most auto part stores or online.

Thanks for the replies. Oddly enough, I never received any email notification from the forum, so I assumed no one had replied.

I ended up pulling the rocker and pushrod out, and that gave me enough room for a magnet, and I was able to fish it out. This motor has gigantic pushrod holes, compared to anything else I've ever seen.

That's the thought that was going through my head as I was worming the inspection camera deeper and deeper. Lifter:

We use these flexible ones where the magnet remains inactive until you push the plunger to activate the magnet when you reach the object you desire to retrieve.
