1979 f100 custom wheel size help

Just bought a 1979 f100 custom. Its been in the shop 4 weeks having work done but when it comes out it needs new wheels, the prior owner has on these funky too wide things, sorry no image as I don't have the truck.
Question, what it the correct wheel size for this model and what is recommended to maybe improve the look?

The truck will remain stock in looks per se so nothing outrageous.

Dunno about stock sizes on Dents but Bumps are 15x6 IIRC.

This '73 was lowered 3 inches in front and 4 inches in the rear and wore 255/70-15s on 8-inch wide wheels on all four corners. The tires are 29 inches tall. I liked its utter simplicity.

Slots are some of my favorites and are period correct and still can be found used for a reasonable price .. These are
-15-x-8-5 .. What gear ratio you have is going to play a role in how tall a tire you choose ..

I like the looks of a classic steel wheel with the small ford hubcaps. You can actually buy the plain steel rim new in wider sizes, than the factory offered.

At this time the truck won't be lowered and I won't be changing the gear ratio, hence asking about stock. I love the steel rim option but what's the original size?
It's not in the manuals ( owners and service)

A stock tire size was G78-15.. which converts to a modern-day 215/75-15 or 225/70-15.

You should still know what the gear ratio is .. On a 40 year old truck it could be anything at this point .. It's the only way to make an informed choice on tires ..

Is your F100 2wd? If there is still a tag this should get you there ..

NOTE: Axle tag location and appearance may vary by application

This is all you need to know. All '79 1/2 tons left the factory with 15" wheels, regardless of engine, transmission, or rear end gear ratio. A slightly larger tire (235/75-15 for example) might give a minute deviation on the speedometer, but really no other significant consequences. And, these tires could be mounted on 6" to even 8" width aftermarket wheels.

For wheels you might well find a decent set at the JY.

If you want new, Summit is a good option. Select your wheel size and bolt pattern and you will get lots of choices including unpainted steel wheels.

That is what I did to replace wheels on my F250. I went with US Wheel steelies for near stock tire size.
