Hello, this is probably a really silly question, but could someone tell me what this frayed rubber hose is? the inner plastic tube is exposed and mashed (not penetrated though).

It hooks near the bottom of my rear wheel (one on each rear wheel).
There is also a steel line that hooks to the wheel where the brake bleeder valve is, so I'm pretty sure this rubber hose isn't a brake hose.

Trying to learn, any help is much appreciated!

It isn't actually a hose, that would be the parking brake cable it's coated with a rubber/plastic covering.

 

The reason they swell and split is from interior corrosion, which leads to sticking e brakes. If I remember correctly it's only about $35 for both rear cables new at O'Reilly.
