I'm 1 week away from seeing the SCAB I ordered...
Definitely a disaster for Ford, and for anyone who is considering the s-cab models I'm probably a week away from delivery of the S CAB Lariat I ordered back in June, and with this new report, I'm wondering if I should have ordered the S Crew instead :-(. And I I wonder if I even have the option to refuse to buy the truck I ordered at this point, and re-order an S Crew instead. I'm sure the dealer would not be amused.

Ford needs to get this fixed right away. It's almost like they are saying they don't care about the safety of the people who drive the Reg or Super cab trucks.
I always wondered what those brackets were for. When I first looked at a 2015 and saw those brackets I was looking at how easy it would be to remove them, I guess now it would be a bad idea to do that.

Here's the IIHS video without the hype:
And here's Ford's response:
So they're working on it. Really amazing the difference a couple of short frame members makes!

We are adding countermeasures in the SuperCab and the regular cab in the 2016 model year. Based on the IIHS data, both vehicles offer similar occupant protection levels [as the SuperCrew]. The F-150 program was well under way when this test was introduced in 2012. We are evaluating which specific changes we will make to the SuperCab and regular cab. It is important that any changes do not compromise performance on other crash tests.”

Arent IIHS ratings typically based on vehicle size right, so compared to other trucks? I don't feel unsafe driving my Fiesta to work. I'm pretty confident that in a front overlap you would win in your truck. IMO it's a nothing to see here headline, a worthy note, interesting video, and something Ford is taking the opportunity to fix. As a caveat, safety ranks about bottom on my personal list of things I can about when buying a car.
As for your order, you can back out, though depending on local laws you may not be able to get your deposit back if you made one. The dealer may not accept another order from you, or Ford may not. Depending on the build, many of these trucks are already balanced out (meaning no more orders effectively). '16 order bank is not open yet. From the dealership perspective they had to attached your name to the truck you ordered. They can get in trouble if they have too many vehicles on their lot ordered for someone when the person hasn't taken delivery. In reality the dealer would probably be most interested in just locating you a car, or selling you one in stock. On a locate, expect to pay more to cover cost (or know they have enough built in your original deal to cover cost).

It's an over-site for sure, and someone is responsible. They should all have the same test rating; Standard Cab, Super Cab, and Crew Cab. On the other hand, the older 97'-03's had poor side impact test ratings and I still see a lot of them on the road including mine with no large accident problems being reported. At least they don't have they problems Fiat Ram is having with their yucks. I agree, they should recall and add what ever structural additions that are needed to bring them up to the Crew Cab test ratings.
