I put a nice aftermarket CD player in my truck when I first got it. It pushes a lot more juice than the old factory radio but the factory speakers are just horrible. But I guess that can be expected after 25+ years in there. I'm looking for a set that would fit right in place of them. Has anyone changed theirs out? Any recommendation on a set? My truck is an extended cab but they only put speakers in the front doors 😕

 

I replaced my stock door speakers with 6.5" kickers from Walmart. They sound great much better than the factory ones.

 

We're they a direct replacement fit? Any modification?

 

6.5 Pioneers is what is in mine. Got them from walmart with 2 6x9s and a receiver for less than $100. Absolutely love them.

I like Polk Audio. The 6.5" speakers in my truck are direct bolt in. However, the factory wiring for speakers in our trucks is not compatible with the speaker wiring in your aftermarket radio - the grounds are tied together in the harness, so the stereo effect will not work properly. You will want to run new, separate, speaker wires to your new speakers for best sound.

 

Direct fit only modification is drill new screw holes.

 

Brand is very much a personal preference. All you can really do is head to a shop, turn some on, and judge for yourself.

6.5" is the right size, but it seems like I always end up having to drill an extra hole or two. Nothing crazy. As for the wiring, if you cut off the stock harness, there isn't a lot of wiring to work with. There is a harness you can use to adapt to the stock wiring, though, that gets you a bit more length.
