Freestyle Traction Light

So, the wife is anxious about the "traction" light being illuminated on the dash. Her 2006 AWD CVT Freestyle continues to function but the light stays on. Her mechanic knows little about this condition and is attempting to research the problem. The mechanic is talking about a computer replacement. Does anyone know about this? There are no Ford mechanics for over 100 miles in any direction. So, we are limited to independents of varying quality.

Might be a late response but my 2005 awd freestyle has the same problem. Mine has been on for about 2 or 3 years now. Well sometimes it goes off. Lol. Ford dealership told me it was a temperature sensor inside the transmission. It would cost about $900 to replace. They said with the light on I just loose my awd and it reverts to fwd only. Which is fine with me. Mine has never had a problem in snow or ice. Mine just rolled over 208,000 miles with no work on engine or transmission.
