CEL Question....SOLVED

Getting a CEL now and then, it doesn't stay on all the time. Will this code be stored for retrieval? If so I'll go find someone that can pull it and read it. If not, I'll uh, well, do something else.

Thanks!

Does the truck start running different when the light comes on? I'm not sure if the code will retain itself or not. Either way it would be good to scan it.

Not all scanners will interface with our trucks, especially the parts store ones. If some one has a snap on scanner or somthing, that would work. Or Autoenginuity.

Yeah, when slowing for a turn or stop it starts to stumble, looses power, CEL comes on. Once you're up and running again it's pretty much normal. I'll have to go visit the shop I know has a scanner for the OBS trucks. I was just curious if they retained the codes or didn't bother keeping them. I'd hate to waste a spot in line at the shop if it wasn't worth it and keep someone else from getting fixed that has a real issue. Then again if I don't I may wind up taking him out of the shop for some some tow truck pay . Not fun for either party.

I would give your valve cover harness a looksy, you may have burned pins. Happens more often than you think. Ask me how I know. Lol.

Check the codes first, but the engine stumbling and starting again, when turning or not, sounds like a CPS failing.

Use a magnifine glass to look real close at those pins. Craig could also be right.

Looks like he can get to the codes later this morning. It acts like I was holding off on disengaging the clutch. Like I was coasting to a stop after cruising at speed, then not hitting the clutch pedal 'till just before it dies. Only problem is there isn't a clutch pedal.

Well, it's out of the shop and running fine ... took a while but worth it. Turned out to be the IDM. Interesting part is the way the motor sounds have changed. Used to be when you were off the throttle and coasting toward a light it would get really noisy. Now it's so quiet (for an old 7.3 ) that I keep thinking my motor has shut down. So, I guess the IDM was having issues from the day I got the truck. Between that and some new u-joints it's really quiet and smooth compared to a few weeks back.

It came on pretty "all of a sudden". And once it was acting up it would do it cold or warm. Yes, it would just about die, tach would drop way down below normal idle, then all at once it would go to a normal idle. Like a switch was turned on. That quick to recover. Then you could start driving again and it was fine until the next time you needed to stop.
