wheel failing question
I have some old OEM wheels on my 2004 f-350, off of a 04 expedition.
I have a vibration issue at 75mph. Now I take it in to the tire shop to have it checked, and find that some of the weights were gone.
The tire store is telling me that the wheels are degraded, and need replaced.
Can this be true? I have never heard of this before.
Another thing that I have going on is that there are cracks around the tire not far from the bead, and they are saying they need replaced. They will give me full purchase price as credit toward the new tires. they only have 10K miles on them.
Is this all true? and do I need to change the wheels and tires.

Are you talking about the rubber tires? My local Discount Tire shop won't touch tires that are 10 years or older.
There is a DOT number, used to be 3 numerals, now are 4, that the last two numerals are the week of the year of manufacture, and the first one or two numerals are the last digits of the year. Look for "DOTXXX" or "DOTXXXX" stamped in the sidewall somewhere.
The cracking you are seeing sounds like common rubber dry rot.
I realize they are offering you 10 year old purchase price, but I would be all over that offer like a duck on a junebug.

yes, rubber tires, less than a year old from the local discount tire. I think that is why I am frustrated, and feel like they might be trying to take advantage of me. They are cracked.
If I change do I stay 16 or go 18? I do have a small lift, 3inches I believe. advantage of the 18 is it would look better I think, Advantage of 16 is I can do tires now and wheels later.
The part about the wheels needing to be changed?
