Finally looking like a truck again
My first attempt at painting was successful enough for a driver. Satin black was not the easiest for a beginner. Windshield in. Broke the back window but Midfifty has a a$9.99 shipping deal so I ordered a new one.
Grill and lights mounted. PT Cruiser door handles work great.
Now to save some $ for a bed.

Bite the bullet and go with a Mar-K or other aftermarket...the dent in your wallet will feel much less painful when you are painting your new bed without the pain of all the prep work you would have had to do on an old OEM bed. The truck is looking good, satin black is very popular right now. Take a look at Steve Stillwell's 56...he is on the sales staff at TCI and his truck is featured on their website. Satin black with orange trimmed wheels.

Thanks, Ben. Sounds like you know the area. Midwest Early Ford was what I will go with. Complete bed, running boards and maybe a roll pan. There's a couple grand right there.

Hey Rick,
If you go with the early '50 & down version of the bed - it's more difficult to make & costs more. If you are ok with the flat bedsides of the later models - they are less expensive & fit fine. I spent at least that much just trying to save our old bed - new stake pockets, new wood, new strips, a lot of body work etc.
Vermont is like heaven to us Texans. It was 103 here yesterday & for the rest of summer - pretty much the same. Other than black flies - can't beat summer in Vermont!
Looking good up there - keep posting pics & let us know if you get stuck on something.

More progress. Bed is done. I repaired the sides, replaced the front panel and cross members, found a tailgate and running boards on Craigslist. The bed is plain ship lap pine ripped to the right width and stained black with several coats of spar poly. Runs and drives but needs tires and some tuning.
