Gen 3 chassis to gen 4 body swap
I have been planning on swapping my body from my 78 Quadravan and was told that anything over 91 will not work. Then I saw this thread. http://www.expeditionportal.com/foru...ject-Body-Swap He swapped a 92 onto a 90 chassis and from looking at it I think its a gen 4. So Im wondering if they were close enough with it being a 92 or is it totally compatible to go all the way into the 2000's? My 460 is carbureted with no electrics besides the duraspark ignition so I don't have to worry about obd compatibility or anything. Im wondering if this means I can swap a body all the way into the 2000's. I know this is the truck thread but I have no replies on the van thread and I trust you guys eyes and expertise. What do you think?

After comparing the pics from 92 on the 4x4 swap and other pics of a 93 and up I noticed the lights and everything are different on 93+. Im starting to wonder if the 92 in the pic was an early enough date that it was a gen 3. If so that doesn't bode well for my purpose but doesn't necessarily rule it out.

One thing I would want is A/C so how the bracketry on the front of the motor as well as the radiator support matched up would be something I would look real close at .. Sure anything can be fabricated but there's a limit to what I'm willing to do weighed against the pay off .. Steering gear box and steering column? What do you expect to gain with a newer body over the 91 and older ?

More choices is the main thing as well as newer metal. I don't really like the looks of the 4th over the 3rd gen, too rounded for my tastes. I talked to a guy today who said that the frame horn is longer on the 3rd. The 4th was the first to start using a crumple type setup and the front bumper would mount differently.

Sorry to kill your dreams here but those are the same body style vans. Most likely they camper was bought from ford In 90 or 91, then converted and then retitled by the conversion company. This is how it is a 92. If you really want to go about putting a newer 2000's van body on your chassis, then you need to get ahold of the builder drawings. These have detailed measurements of frames, body and body mounts along with a crap load of other things.

for future reference, all appear to be free from ford back to 97. The older ones you have to order on cd but newer stuff is downloadable pdf.

Ya I noticed that after looking at it again. Gave me some hope for a minute then of course.......failure lol. As good as it would be to get a 4th gen body I think its going to be too much work and Im going to be charged by the hour for using the shops lift. The gen 3 swap is going to be a lot of work as it is. Thanks for the link.
