You may have to change the fuel bowl, I read that those fuel bowls can't handle the pressure of an electric fuel pump. I have a 97 engine in a 2000 doesnt run but has electrical issues, really poor wiring by the PO and still has the mechanical fuel pump

At some point between 1995 and 1999 (I think it was 1997, but not sure), there were some changes to the block and crankshaft. I don't believe the crankshaft and blocks can be mixed. There was also a change to the block over the lifters. The later blocks have added webs for stiffening that area. Having said that, I have a 1995 short block in my truck right now with late 1999 front cover, HPOP, fuel system induction system and heads. I did have to change the motor mounts from the block out, as they're completely different on the OBS trucks.

7.3 block for rebuild??????

I probably don't know as much as the rest of you but swapping just the blocks should work fine.

A friend of mine who is a mechanic told me that the 97 has stronger connecting rods than the 02.

So what exactly is all changed on the block and heads I'm not sure. I put a 1997 engine in my 2002, leaving the heads on as well. Gotta change the fuel and air system over but just doing the block you shouldn't have a problem.

I am talking just the short block. Gonna put a set of 99 heads on, don't have to worry about fuel bowl I'll swap my regulated return over to it. As long as my HPOP front cover and everything else will bolt up I'm good to go.
