AC Compressor Growing

Make that "growling" not "growing." If it were growing, I'd dig a hole and bury the truck as deep as possible.

AC compressor makes a loud growling noise and lugs the engine briefly when engaged at idle and the truck has been sitting for weeks. After that initial grind, it works perfectly and makes no harsh noises.

Can I replace the compressor bearing or should I swap out the entire compressor?

Thanks.

If its having this issue start with checking the air gap on the clutch first. On the other hand mine was doing the same thing and ended up being the Compressor locking up due to black death. I went to advance auto and got a really great deal on the comp, office valve and dryer as a set.

I would change it out before it implodes and sends schrapnel thru the whole system.
