Overrevving 7.3

My 02 f250 started shaking violently until when I accelerated and the mechanic said it was the wiring harness in the computer. He said it was caused because of over revving I think it was just because the harness was old. Is it because of over revving? Will it happen again?

can you give more info about "shaking violently"? At idle, when first started, ... and then applying fuel cleared the shake up? How many miles on truck? Any check engine light?

It would be best if you start by getting the codes read. Torque Pro and an android device seem to be the norm now and cheap. It may be a loose connection in the Valve cover harness. Might also try posting in the 7.3 section.

If the light is on there are codes get the codes read and post them can't do much without them. They will read them free at most auto parts stores.

I mean I don't know much about the computers, but he said that the computer read that I had over revved and I don't see how that can hurt the wiring

I have never heard of an "over rev" code for a7.3l

Was it possibly an "over boost" code?

Over boost code is no big deal, it defuels the engine for a bit then resets and you have full power again but it does store a code even after the CEL gos out.

I just wanna make sure it won't happen again. He said that old diesels can't be revved hard, which I didn't do, and he said that the computer showed that I over revved it and it cost me 300 dollars. I don't think that's right
