Need advice, PCM/IDM options

Hey all,

Not new to the HEUI powerstrokes, but new to modifying them. I recently bought a OBS with a 97 7.3 in it, was butchered into a 94 truck. The trucks been passed around between my college buddies like that girl with the big rack you saw at the bar all the time. This things just as fast, holy **** did it haul the mail when it was running right.

I fixed all the driveability problems my buddies had with it, so I know the truck pretty well. Well enough to know it needed a harness that wasn't butchered. My one of buddies let it sit longer than it should have, and the PCM was sitting on top of the IDM exposed to the elements under the hood.

I'm in the process of putting a new harness in it, and I took apart the PCM and IDM. They're corroded as ****, and so is the chip that sticks into the back of the PCM. It's some sort of 6 position chip, unsure of the the flavor but it works 1/2 the time. It seems like its got high idle, economy, performance and smoke n lope.

The trucks got a built E4OD to handle the:
Stage 3 injectors
HPOP
H2E of the BorgWarner variety.
A ***** ton of rust
A saggy ****ing ttb

The PCM and IDM are beyond saving IMHO.

Any suggestions of which PCM/IDM to get off the ol ebay?

As far as the chip goes, you think its stock or you think its custom programmed? It goes through that overboost fuel-cut if you don't have the chip on it.

Also, they PO pulled out the fuel bowl in the valley and just has a regulator there now. Is it restrictive? Why tf did he pull it out? Right now its only got a 33406 water seperator on the vacuum side and I kinda wanna throw a filter on the pressure side of it and I feel like the stock bowl doesn't suck too hard. Thoughts on that?

'preciate it.

Chip is most likely custom tuned if it ran good with stage 3 injectors at one point.

Eliminating the fuel bowl eliminates alot possible areas for fuel to leak.

There is no fuel filters along the chassis?? im assuming your truck has e fuel if your running stage 3s

I mean the thing was fat as hell but it ran good. Smoke was on the verge of being gray when it was making 40#

Gotcha, so that's why people go away from it?

Yeah no fuel filter. I mean the separator goes down. To 14 microns but I agree it needs another filter. E fuel meaning electric fuel pump? Then yes

There is no "stock chip". FIRST thing to do with any running problem on a modified truck is to revert (what's possible) to stock. In this case, REMOVE the chip. DON'T just set it on the stock setting, but physically disconnect it from the PCM. If the problem persists, then pursue it with what equipment the truck has. If it goes away, or even improves, then the chip is suspect.

Before considering PCM and/or IDM as suspects, have you scanned it for codes?

Shouldve clarified. When I said that earlier before about taking the chip off, I physically removed it, and it goes into overbooat fuel cut like right friggin now.

Injectors have been bench tested and are around 230cx

Yeah it's been scanned, no codes unless I'm running without the chip and then it's just the P0236 for map circuit performance.

The circuit board itself on both is FULL of corrosion. I'm not just pulling out the parts shotgun here for a driveability issue, this **** is bad. If you have a rusty panel, you replace it
