Blend Door Issues- Windshield and Front Dash

Has anyone had issues with the blend door on the AC system. I will have it on AC or MAX AC. I will have it on the setting to be point out of the dash at me. It occasionally will switch to the defrost windshield setting. I can hear the blend door moving and changing from chest level to the windshield.

Any known issues or is this just me?

Low vacum. Very common. The usual fail point is the 4WD vacum system because it uses the same vacum source. What failed on mine was the ESOF switch, this is what actuated the front hubs, they are vacum operated when in the auto position.

Good luck!

So should I be checking to see if the 4wd works as well? Easy replacement of ESOF switch?

1 EX has it correct. Lots of posts on it, the search engine is your friend. Mine was a cracked vac line from the pump to the hubs - easy fix.

I would be surprised if it were something else. Good luck.

Can someone please explain to me the auto position? Is this on the hubs, or like an auto position on the 4WD selector switch on the dash? Mine only has 2WD, 4hi, 4low?

I am assuming you are talking about the hub correct?

Your ESOF vacuum actuator is located on the passenger's side inside fender wall, just back from the battery. It has an electrical connector and a few vacuum lines on it, this is the valve that allows vacuum to the front hubs to lock and unlock them when the dash switch is used.
Most common place for the vacuum lines to fail is between the frame and the axle in the wheel wells, where they are most exposed to the elements. Check those cheap rubber hoses for any signs of cracking, splitting or deterioration, if they are shot your stock hubs will not lock.

If you search for "PVH solenoid", the correct name for the part, you'll find detail about it.
