Any updates what gas engine will they put in the 2017?

It was mentioned at a Ford convention. Diesel gets a little over $1000 in dealer profit (if you're talking about sticker price), and I'm sure there is some money for Ford as well. I think a good chunk of it is market driven though. Many folks who do buy diesel could buy a modern gas motor and they get offended when I suggest as much. Very few have asked for a detailed analysis on the gas capabilities, and rather, they simply assume they need the diesel. Granted, there are a ton of folks out there who do NEED the diesel specs, but plenty just enjoy the extra power. If they were to do the numbers, they'd be better off with gas and buying their wife some extra flowers and themselves a bunch of new guns.

I guess I fall into this category. I purchased a 15 F350 6.7 as a toy. Only drive on the weekends and it has never seen a trailer. I just like the way they drive, stance, sound and look. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm probably not the only one.
If one of the big 3 would build a gas motor than sounds like a diesel, I would purchase a gas model.
Just my opinion.....

I am planning on the 6.7 because my next camper will be a 15k fifth wheel. I'm tired of my gas 5.4 f150 wide open at 3800 RPM on every big hill with an 8k travel trailer. (I have spent over an hour WOT in 3rd towing 5000 miles in the last 5 years.)
A direct-injected 6.2 with a 10-speed would make me at least ponder going gas though.

The 3.5 EcoBoost will out tow the 5.4 in any situation. The EB clearly shows it's muscle in the mountains and hills. I haven't had a chance to tow with my 6.2 in the mountains but I'm guessing the 6.2 will want to run at the higher RPMS. I don't think the 6.2 is rated to tow 15K, so at this point you're looking at the 6.7.

The 5.0L is a great engine, but I don't think it'd be well suited in the Super Duty. That engine is all-aluminum and designed to rev. You have to remember that Super Duty trucks spend hours idling, and rack up huge mileages. The current detuned 6.2L with an iron block does fine at this, and still makes very respectable power. This engine did well in the mountain climbing tests compared to the other gas engines.
The Eco Boost is an interesting proposition - but I much prefer the CGI block of the 2.7L than the aluminum 3.5L. The current Navigator tune - 380bhp and 460lb-ft - would make for a nice setup. Really, though, 400bhp and 500lb-ft would be excellent.
My preference, however, would be to simply give the 6.2L direct injection, and bump the power level to 400/450. I really like a big-displacement gas V8 option in a truck.

As much as I would also love it, I see it as a zero possibility.
The fuel mileage would be horrid.
I'm guessing an improved V-6 Eco is what we will see. Lighter weight is what Ford is after..
Unless some really incredible numbers comes out of the V-6 Eco, I'm also guessing most of us will still opt for the PSD.

I'm planning on buying a 2017 extended cab work truck 6.7L 4x4 as my next work truck...should be pretty decent.

The current F350 4x4 SCREW with 6.2 is rated for 15K with the 4.30 rear. I sure would have like an EB, but it wasn't available in '09. I've already replaced both of my exhaust manifolds this year, which I suspect is related to working the engine so hard towing. $1800 down the drain My '09 is rated for a 9700# trailer. If I had the 3.73 instead of the 3.55, it would have been rated at 11,300. Given how it behaves with a 8000# trailer, I'd hate to see what it would be like with 3300 more pounds!

My 5.4 has 88,000 on it with a 3.31 gears. Going over the Big horn mountains about 10,000 + feet. 2ed gear at 4,500 rpm. My brother in law was towing a heavier TT with an EB. His trans warmed up but no other issues.

I too thought about headers. But I'm looking forward to seeing the 2017 F350. Thinking it would be easier to sale with factory manifolds.
