89 F250 460 Interchange

I have an 88 F250 Ext Cab 4x4 with a really tired 460 engine. The guy I bought it from had someone convince him that he should just have the top end done on the truck to fix the moderate oil consumption. Needless to say, after the fresh heads were installed it finished off what was left of a dying set of rings. This engine uses more oil than anything I have ever owned, about 1 quart every 150 miles. It even fouls the plugs after long periods of time. I am interested if I can simply change the shortblock as many people have told me that all the 460 engines were the same. The motor is complete and running so I would have all the electronics, heads, intake, mounts, flywheel, accessories, etc to transfer to a new 460 shortblock. Can anybody tell me the years and models with interchangable F250 shortblocks? I see a lot of 86 to 90 vans but don't know if the non-efi models will work. I am pretty good with the EEC systems as I have had a couple of Merkurs and a Turbo Thunderbird, so I'm not afraid of the EFI if the heads, intake, and distributor etc will physically work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Robert

You can Do it. A friend of mine took a 1980 460 and married the EFI heads and intake to it. Good Luck

Why Buy new when you can build and tailor it cheaper?

Thanks for the info. Anything strange like water passages or balancing necessary?
