Soldering solid strand wire that supplies IVR

Can't get this F'ing this soldered, tried extra flux, diff solder, sanding, torch, low heat iron, high heat iron, everything I can think of.

What the heck is this wire made of? Aluminum?

A crimp connector is out of the question, I have soldered and heat shrinked every wire that needed it on this truck and has ZERO crimp connectors... not starting now.

Any advice tips helps, if not I guess I'm rewiring with copper...

Huh. You've tried scraping down to bare copper and using paste flux? It doesn't look like copper does it.

If it is in fact silver it will require a higher temp ..

Didnt act like silver when I torched it LOL and its not very malleable like silver is. Would they really put 3 feet of silver wire in our trucks?

I think the best way is to do a fresh cut on one of the stripped wires and check the cross cut with a magnifying glass .. You will have to get down to bare copper if its copper core in order for it to solder ..

No dice, I re cut, looked and stripped the wire in half still silver in color and tried to solder with no luck either...

Any ideas? Im about to pull out a welding rod see if I can braze it.

I think I would wire nut it and check if it fixed the problem before going to that extreme

Aluminum (doubtful they are using silver) is tough to solder because it instantly forms an invisible layer of corrosion upon exposure to air. Scratching/scraping the material through a blob of molten solder will do the trick sometimes but there's probably a better method for what you're trying to do here.

That sounds like what is exactly happening the wire is turning gray before the flux browns out. Well think I might have to nut or crimp it.... cant find any of my softer welding rods to braze it but if I could I can braze to where it works like solder, not too extreme. Thanks for the help!

A non-insulated butt connector and heat shrink would take care of it.
