1966 engine (center sump) 1980 (rear sump) swap question

Hello All, I have bought a 1966 mercury 300 L6 and a 1980 ford 300 L6. One of these beauties is going into my 1985 f250 4x4. With a little luck and information.
It appears that the 1966 hasn't been bored out but the 1980 has .40 over pistons.
1966 has a center mounted sump and the 1980 has a rear mounted sump.
My question is will the 1980 pan and sump fit the 1966 block?
Thanks for your time.

Yes a 1980 pan will fit the 66. Just make sure to also swap the oil pump pick up tube ( which also requires swapping over the one main cap bolt/stud ) .

Thanks Ted! Havent pulled the pan off the 1980 yet but when i do i am planing on covering the dipstick hole and using the block mounted dipstick location.
Thanks again for the information. I wanted to know if it was possible before i tried.

That won't work. The block mounted dipstick on the 66 is located for the center sump pan. You need to use the 80's pan mounted dipstick. That's the only reason the 80 pan will work for your application.

thanks again Ted. I have alot to learn. Appreciate you're time and the use of your knowledge base.
I have the 66 on the engine stand and the 80 on the cherry picker.
Going to pick up a rolling engine dolly next pay day.
Thanks again for your time and effort.
