Thanks! Bell and engine...check. So the one question that remains is which tranny would be best to look for since the one I have is a no go?

I have seen the trans you have installed but you will have to make a bracket to attach from the bell crank to the trans .The one I saw used the bolts in the top cover to attach the custom bracket. If you do that you will be very happy with that 3 speed

Good info, thanks guys. So I guess the other option would be to find something like a Borg Warner t-85 and swap the cover with a 53 - 56 trans?

I have always woundered why ford made the u clutch bracket thingie connected to the trans.

Wouldn´t it be possible to modify/elongate the "hook" on the end of the clutch shaft (the one with the cutter pin) to accept the clutch connecting arm???

That cant be very hard to modify

Thanks guys...sounds like the best plan is to use the HEF-AU 3.03 tranny I have and just make a bracket to create a pivot point for the u bracket.

Hey guys. Need your help again. So I ended up finding a 3 speed trans out a 55 that I decided to mate up to the 292 y block that I have. I ordered a new clutch kit for the 292, installed it no prob but towards the end of the install I noticed I did not have a throwout bearing hub. I did some searching around and ended up with NOS part B3TZ-7561-A which I assumed would work fine for my application of mating the older style trans to the 292 out of the 59. The throwout hub fits fine on the trans and the fork on the bell housing but not so much on the throwout bearing itself. As you can see from the pics the diameter on the bearing is bigger than the hub. Any suggestion on what to do here? Do I need a different hub or a different bearing?? Thanks for all the help.

A lot of Cars used the same trans but with a smaller diameter tube for the release bearing, and a smaller input shaft diameter. It could be you have a car trans. Is the input shaft 10-spline, 1-3/8" diameter?

Thanks for the reply. It's a 10 spline but the shaft diameter is 1-3/4". I pulled the tranny out of a f100 panel and judging from what I saw it definitely appeared to me to be original to the truck.

Where did you get the TO bearing? That just doesn't look right. It should have a much wider face. You have the correct hub. What is that grease fitting on? (I realize I have a different trans but pretty sure the same TO bearing was used for like a century)

Doesn't appear to be right, but my books only go to 56. This shows everything except the really big trucks using the same bearing, C0TZ-7580-A, from 48 - on.

This is the bearing NAPA shows for a '59, p/n BRG N1087
