'14 6.2 to '12 6.7
I have a '14 250 super cab XLT with a 6.2 in it that I've been very happy with. Tows our toy hauler nicely, not many bells and whistles. It has about 14,000 miles on it.
We recently moved our father-in-law in with us, and it sucks for my long legged wife to have to ride in the back of the supercab.
I found a '12 King Ranch 250 with the 6.7 and 47,000 miles on it. Very clean inside and out. It's been taken well care of, sold and serviced by the Ford dealer where I buy all of my cars. I can get it for $41k and they will give me $30k for mine (I owe about $26).
I've never owned a diesel, but everything I've read says go for it. Any thoughts on the '12s? Good deal?

My first thought is that going from an XLT 250 to a well equipped 250 with the 6.7, you are going to see a significant reduction in payload.
You may want to be sure you will not exceed payload capacity with the toy hauler. Some 250's with the 6.7 and many options have abysmally low payloads, almost makes the truck useless for what it was made for.
Just a thought.

Tough decision. Personally, for $41K, I'd get into something new, especially if the 6.2 is enough for you. Save a lot of $$ now and later (maint.)
Here's a F-350 6.2L Lariat for ~$41K:
2015 Ford F350 Lariat, $41,730 - Cars.com
Just make sure you get the Clearance lights ($55) and Lariat Interior Package ($650). The best options!
You can also get a new XLT 6.7 for ~$42K. It's a tough decision, one I've been contemplating...

Along with the engine difference you are definitely upgrading the cab area. Will be a very nice ride for everyone in the king ranch.
We went with the lariat because of long travels. Much nicer ride for passenger with lariat with 10 way seat.
They are having deals on the 15 models. If you are planning to tow it is a great machine. Otherwise keep what you have and get a car or suv

I would agree with the option of keeping your truck and buying a second vehicle to haul everyone around in. I bought my truck to use like a truck and a van to use as a family hauler. The 6.7 doesn't seem to be as problematic as the prior diesels, but I would still vote to stay with the 6.2.

ive heard the 2012 is a bad year for the 6.7. Heard it has faulty sensors for the DEF that will shut the truck down in the middle of the road. Ford did recall it, but after hearing about that, I wouldnt even consider getting a new diesel anymore. Becuase if you do run out of DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid), it could leave you stranded, I have had my 2015 6.2 for awhile and I love it. And fuel economy between the 2 are roughly the same

Sorry for the slow reply. I didn't explain it clear enough, but when I hook up the toy hauler and we get on the road, with her, her dad and a 90 pound boxer dog, my Wife sits in the rear with the dog. She's a long legged 5'9". Not a good situation for her in a supercab. We just turned her leased Lincoln in as her dad, that moved in with us has a new car that's paid for, so the car for grocery's is covered.
The truck is a Certified Pre Owned, so it comes with the CPO warranty which will have 50k miles and 4 years left on it. I'm not sure it includes the turbo though so I have to check in to that.
My buddy at the Ford dealer sent it home with me for the weekend on a no charge rental. It was in regen mode when I picked it up so I drove about 20 miles until it reset. Average mileage during regen was about 11 and 16 after, so it gets better mileage than my 6.2, which I average about 11 - 12 in the same area.
My thoughts so far; Unbelievable how quiet it is! The KR cab is pretty amazing. Love the Golden Bronze 2 tone paint. Tires are new Cooper discoverer RTX's. It also has a nice Retrax $$$ roll up locking tonneau and line-x sprayed in bed liner.
I'm going to go hook up the trailer today to see how it tows. I'm sure it'll be fine though.
