No spark

I have a 1956 ford f100 and I got a new coil and a 1.6 ohm resistor I can't figure out why I'm getting no spark, all the power is connected to it, is there something going on in my distributor? I bought new spark plugs and wires but haven't measured the breaker points.

I tried testing out the coil by hooking the battery straight to the resistor then to my coil, grounded out at the condenser and plug the spark plug straight to the coil and still no plug. I just bought the coil to day, what do I do?

The coil needs the points to function properly so that it can build and collapse the field to generate the energy to jump the plug gap. So like said, check your points and condenser, e.g. do a tune-up.
