Stu, glad you checked in, I was pretty sure they were safe wheels but you're the expert. I felt better once you agreed. Heck, he pretty much has a jump in and drive truck now. Just has to cough up some money for the tires and get the brakes working. The hardest to find part, next to safe wheels, are good brake drums but from looking at the rest of the truck I'd bet the drums are good to go. The other brake parts are hard to find, Job Lot in NY used to have a complete kit, all four wheel cylinders, master cylinder and three brake hoses for around $300, probably a little more now. The shoes can be relined.

I have no idea what the switch on the column controls, do you have any external lights or maybe a dome light? The pushbutton at the bottom left of the dash is the starter button. You turn the key to the far right and push the button to engage the starter. The flip switch under the dash if for the dashboard lights. Back in the old days of driving down dark country roads you would turn off the dashboard light to eliminate the glare and see the road better.

Interesting. I was thinking that maybe the switch on the column might have something to do with that there are no keys and that was how they were starting it? I won't have time to dig in until maybe Saturday. Thanx.

Could be, maybe they just ran two wires to the back of the ignition switch to bypass the key switch.

I don't know the toggle is below the aftermarket horn button. But the toggle under the dash is the instrument lights and the button is the starter button. The lever closest to th seat is a electric trailer brake controller.
I have a 48 F6 also so we can compare notes!

If you need to replace the radiator cap, be certain to watch the rating - yours should be a 4 pound version.

On the brakes. It appears that the lines have been refreshed. I would check the fluid level in the master cylinder - under the floor by the driver's right foot there is an access disk. This should be a booster system that has other components that may be at issue if the fluid is ok.

The biguns' are a special challenge - they do have their own honest style. Thanks for sharing.
which cap is it? I've found a few

Well I found a local "to me" shop to help with the repairs. Can't wait to get her fully running again. In the next couple weeks or so I might have more updates. I hope to drive her by fall, perfect time for hayrides, etc!

WOW! Great looking truck. I have a F-6 COE, basically the same truck. Your truck looks to have had a partial restoration and upgrade to a 12 volt system. You're on the home stretch now.
