Which year is most reliable? and other questions.
Greetings all. Sold my Excursion and looking to get an Expedition for wife but looking to get one in the years of 2007-2010.
Needed for 7 passenger capable, occasional 4x4 trip to tahoe for snow.
Which year and engine size would you recommend to be most reliable?
Lastly, do Expeditions have a cabin air filter? My excursion didn't have it and it drove my wife crazy as she has allergies.
Thanks in advance?

I have an 08
had it since 2011 with no major issues at all.
I did replace a heater hose ($40)
But lately I feel what feels like trans issue.. like cant find the gear when doing 40 mph and you gently try to pass someone. Hoping its a solenoid.
Also the rust in the rain channels on the roof is another issue to watch out for.

Hate to tell you... Go get a tune up. Swear, same thing in my 08 was happening- at 40/45 when speeding up (to pass someone) or even at 65 it started acting funny like it was the tranny... Nope, it was a tune up. Went to Ford and 7 of the 8 plugs broke and they replaced one coil pack. Just about 650 all in. Worth. EVERY. PENNY. At 230K miles it still runs like it had 50k on it. I kept putting it off because I thought it was a tranny and was going to trade it in. Finally one day when I was showing a family 8 houses on a Saturday, it started chugging. Couldnt have been at a worse time.. I nursed it through the rest of my showings and dropped it off to Ford. Even if the service advisor hadn't said they were going to, I would recommend using the new 1 piece spark plug in case you plan on keeping it for a while and a 2nd tune up down the road wont be as costly... This was #2 for me. Just wish I could get better gas out of it.

I have an 07 Navigator. It does not have a cabin filter. I don't think any of them do.
Expeditions and Navigators have the same 5.4 V8 engine up to 2014. (One size fits all).
Bought my 07 in 2012 with 33,000 miles. Now it has 70,000 and The only thing that went wrong is that one front shock started leaking oil around 65,000 miles.
Even though it was running good I changed the spark plugs at 50,000 and they all came out ok. I don't think they would have come out very easy at 100,000 miles though.
God luck with whatever you buy.

Just picked up a 07 EL. Read about the plug issue, breaking when coming out. I think I read somewhere there is a tool you can buy to extract them yourselves. Anyone know how much or where I can get it? Amazon?
I too chose the 2007+ Expedition after weeks of research. It took me a while to find one in my price range. Just bought a 07 EL Eddie Bauer last night. Can't wait to get some off roading and towing in. We took the Odyssey on some rough roads, and pulled a small ATV trailer, but I want to see how a car built for that handles it.

I read where the back 2 spark plugs were very hard to reach.
So I used a milk crate with a plywood strengthener that gave me about 12" of height. Standing on that made the back plugs a lot easier. I did need a combination of socket extensions.
All the plugs came out ok with the back 2 having a little more carbon buildup.
