TSB # 5-19-12

I have an '06 6.0. I have the madening droan between 1800 and 2000 rpm when traveling between about 65 and 70 mph. anything outside that range and the droan goes away.

I have read the tsb numerous times but am still confused.

Based off my build date, 05/24/15 I have the updated turbo pedestal. But when I check the number on the pedestal it is 1854824c1, not the 1846207C1 stated as the updated mount.

I am also confused about the A-brace vs the Pedestal referenced in the tsb.
5C3Z-6N639-BA Turbocharger Bracket A-brace
5C3Z-6N639-AA Turbocharger Pedestal
They both look like pedestals and the part number for the A-brace is hundreds, over 300 dollars, when the Pedestal is about 70 bucks.

Then at the bottom of the tsb I read this :
Operation 051912A 2005-2006 F-Super Duty 6.0L 2005 Excursion 6.0L: (Vehicles Built After 1-17-2005) Install Turbo Charger A-Brace (Do not use with 9600A, 6646A, 12650D67, 9438A, 9438A3)

Notice no mention of exhaust neutralization on Operation 051912A.

So, what the heck do I need to do according to the tsb?

Since that Murphy guy gets me everytime with his law I am going to assume I need the replace my current turbo pedestal with the "A-brace" for about 350 bucks.

I have a late build date if I read things correctly and seem to
not have the "A" brace if I understand that part right.

Is that the 2 part assembly that you see some times?

IMHO it's more about "neutralizing" the exhaust system and piping than changing the pedestal. Y-pipe AND downpipe -- Loosen all the bolts enough to pop the clamps and loosen the pipes and let everything "fall in place" then retighten. Does that make sense? Basically just stress relieving the system.

Sounds plausible. Too much Mythbusters I think.

I will try that when I have time. It is not so bad that I will tear into it unless I have nothing else going on, which is rare these days.

I am still curious about the referenced turbo brackets and pedestal.

And don't get me wrong cause I'm not saying the drone for you isn't annoying, but I seem to remember the same type of thing on the 03's when they came out, and it seemed to be more about relieving stress than changing the pedestal when it came to making a REAL difference. My truck is straight piped so I don't even tend to notice that type of noise (or annoyance). I'm just trying to save you $350 for something you seriously might not need and might be able to fix for "free" (or for a minimal investment of only time).

I found a little more information on page 16/17 of this PDF:

I was not questioning anything you recommended. I was just curious about the 2 brackets and why one costs 6 times more than the other.

I appreciate your suggestions, I really do, and I will be trying to relieve the exhaust as soon as I have some free time and energy! LOL
