Tranny goes into neutral?

I have a 1995 RV with a 7.5L Automatic with O/D that i just recently purchased. The transmision shifts fine at all speeds, nice and smooth. My problem is it seems to go into Neutral at stops. If I sit for a couple of seconds at a stop, it goes into Neutral. It does the same in Reverse. I just tested my MLPS and it tested perfect.
I just checked it again now and it engages almost right away when i put it into drive but slowly seems to 'slip'. Reverse does the same but seems to take longer to engage.

Please Help

I took it to a repair shop this morning, technician said it needs a complete rebuild. At 44000 miles? No codes! It did stall once when we put it into reverse. Only happened the one time. Every other time it it just seemed to slip, but not completely. It revs up slightly when I put it into gear, no noises, no hard shifts. Fluid is not burnt, nice and clean.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Steve, A little ways down the main page is a forum for transmissions, clutches and diffs etc. There are some real gurus that hang out down there and maybe one will see your post if you post down there. Sorry I can't help but you might find it there. Good luck!!

Sounds like a solenoid issue, but I would check with the Transmission guys in that forum. If it is an E4OD, there is no way it should need a rebuild and I wouldn't call that guy a technician anymore. There are other words...

Why would you say that? There is NO solenoid that can cause the trans to go to neutral.

Would one of those words be expert?

Yes, it's an E4OD. Why wouldn't it need a rebuild? Are you saying it is impossible for an E4OD to fail at that low mileage? I'll agree it shouldn't, but it's happened before.

The most likely failure mode here is that the forward clutch seals have hardened and failed. How would YOU propose fixing that?

My apologies mark. Glad you chimed in. I would tell him to consult an expert such as yourself. Not trying to lead anyone astray here.

Thanks for the replies. Mark, you mentioned forward clutch seals, would that effect it also in Reverse?

No, forward clutch seals won't affect reverse.

Any thoughts to what it could be? Seems to do the same in forward and reverse. Anything I can test? Check?

It could be the reverse clutch seals. Or the pump could be low on pressure.
