We already have that. Engine output in Torque x gear ratio(s) of transmission x transfer case ratio(s) x final drive axle ratio = gross torque for applications. As the engine output increases they drive line has to be able to handle the torque as its applied to a max factor. In the case of towing its somewhere in the area of 30,000+ lbs. That is a lot of stress on the driveline. We are starting to approach numbers that its going to take a BIG Allison trans and a Dana 120 axle set to handle.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying its wrong, but how far do we go. I have made a couple of trips now in my F 350 Dually and its 860 lbs. As my 3rd truck at the F350 level, '09, '11 and now the '15 I can tell you its night and day. My truck camper fully loaded and us in the truck prepared for a long trip, I have never been able to drive the left lane like I do now and get in the mountains, LOL, its get the hell out of my way or off the road. I no longer pull to the far right when I see the sign that says: Passing lane ahead. I hit the left lane and with Tow engaged I pass everything but the Corvettes and the look on some of the folks faces is stunning.

One guy stayed with me for a long time and pulled into the fuel stop when I did. He was driving a Mustang GT and asked about my truck, was stunned when I told him it was box stock. When I told him it had 860 lb he wanted to look under the hood.

Thanks Carl.

I think we have peaked. I can take 6000 lbs in the bed of my truck, punch in cruise control at 75 and and have a burn rate of about 10.5 mpg.

Rare is the time that it has to shift below 5th gear in CC with that payload.

We are at the point that in order to make significant jumps torque the envelope and footprint of our truck will have to be increased in capability on the order of a magnitude. At that time you are talking a major increase in production costs and acquisition costs for the consumer.

The interior I saw last year while doing a review of the new f-250 looked very similar to the new F-150. Who knows if it changed since then.

Don, I think the 6.7 is capable of more. The drive train is the limiting factor.

Why the hell did a thread about the new Super Duty turn into an OT political rant?

Anyway nice pics! It will be interesting if 2018 is the all new model or they actually realease it in as 2017. Hopefully they will realease it as a 2017 so when I buy a new to me truck next year it will drive down the prices of the 2013-2014.

I'd shoot for a 13 or 14. My 13 has not had any problems at all. except the radio. That will be replaced on Wednesday.

It seems like these new designed vehicles take much longer to make it into the mainstream than years past? It took GM very long to introduce (which still isn't being sold yet) their 6th generation Camaro.

I would hope Ford shows off the newly designed F-250 at the Texas State Fair.

Something no one mentioned is that when the guy the OP talked to mentioned high humidity testing, but he never said they were diesel engines. Could be a new gasser....

That would make more sense...considering all of the nasty CaC condensation problems the 3.5L had in the F-150, it would be good to test an FI engine in a high humidity environment.

That being said, the same problems were had in the 6.4 diesel, but not as wide spread.

maybe I should of clarified my interactions with the Ford guy.... I yelled through my window at the guy who was standing 30' from me talking to other guys. We didn't have an actual conversation per say. I asked him "when can I buy one"? He replied "These arnt available for a few years". He then said "They are the new Super Duty trucks." I said "Yeah, I know, I want one now, when will they be available for sale?" He replied "They are 2018 models, so you still have some waiting ahead of you." I asked "What are you guys doing down here with them?" He replied "We are doing High humidity testing, you guys have 80-90% humidity almost year round, so its the perfect environment for testing. Lots of manufactures bring their test vehicles down here". I said "Thanks! Hope they dont catch on fire!"

JK on that last part.
